When Google unveiled the Pixel 3 in October, fans and enthusiasts were disappointed with the huge notch on the XL model. However, Google’s flagship smartphone redeemed itself with a superb set of cameras. The 12.2-megapixel rear camera improved upon the already great unit from the Pixel 2 while the dual 8-megapixel camera set up at the front offered a new perspective into selfies. When the leaks for the Pixel 3 Lite surfaced, it was expected that the cheaper Pixel 3 variant would at least offer the flagship’s camera performance. However, the leaks showed a single front camera. A new leak now brings back the dual camera setup on the cheaper Pixel 3.
According to the latest renders published on Slashleaks, Google’s Pixel 3 Lite will retain the dual camera setup for the front. The renders are done by a case manufacturer, with all the tiny details that the Pixel 3 Lite will supposedly launch with sometime early next year. As usual, the front features an 18:9 display with noticeable bezels all around. The front is shown retaining the dual selfie camera sitting to one side. There’s also a set of stereo speakers, similar to the ones that we found on the Pixel 3.
As for the rear, the trademark Pixel dual tone finish is gone and in its place lies a mono “iPhone 7-esque” finish. There’s a single rear camera accompanied by an LED flash, which indicates that the Lite version could also sport the Visual Core chip to help with class-leading image quality. Additionally, the capacitive fingerprint sensor sits at the centre. By the looks of it, the Pixel 3 Lite will sport an all-metal chassis instead of the previously speculated plastic rear panel.
The case also points towards the presence of a 3.5mm headphone jack, which will mark the return of the old audio port for the Pixel series. Additionally, the secondary microphone will stay for noise cancellation. As expected, the Pixel 3 Lite will ship with Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box.
At this point in time, it’s too premature to figure out whether one should believe this leak or not. That said, we expect that Google will unveil the Pixel 3 Lite at the CES 2019 in January. Therefore, the Lite series of the Pixel 3 will look somewhat similar to the renders showcased here. It is speculated that there will be two Pixel 3 Lite models with slightly varying specifications and price. The standard Pixel 3 Lite will be underpinned by a Snapdragon 670 SoC along with 4GB RAM as standard. It will sport a 5.5-inch display with thick bezels to the sides. A 2915mAh battery will keep it alive. The Pixel 3 XL Lite will sport a bigger 6-inch display with no notch on the top. Rumours say that the bigger model will be powered by a Snapdragon 710 SoC.
